We understand the challenges of time, money and resources that all school districts are faced with. That’s just part of the reason our school-based ABA solutions are so impactful.
The Uncommon Thread is committed to advancing the lives of New Jersey children diagnosed with autism and related learning disabilities. We are a non-profit, New Jersey Department of Education approved agency who partner with dozens of school districts each year to deliver ABA Staffing, ABA Training, ABA Consulting and more.
Tools and Services to Build and Maintain Your Own Robust ABA Program
TUT provides school districts with all the tools and services necessary to build a quality ABA program so that it meets the needs of their Learning Disabled population in the “least restrictive environment” and ensures a district’s program is more closely aligned with the State of NJ APQI standards (Autism Program Quality Indicators). We are happy to provide a free consultation.
Dedicated School District Director and Coordinator at Your Disposal
TUT has two dedicated resources for all of our school district partners. Our main objective is to ensure all district partners are as successful and self-reliant as possible. We initiate and ensure ongoing communication with district staff, directors and case managers. We make certain all TUT services are being met satisfactorily and will work to replace staff if he/she should resign or does not meet the district standards for any reason. Lastly, we are available to our districts for troubleshooting, collaboration and consultation on the development and/or enhancement of your program.
BCBA/ABA Services
In-District BCBA Support: TUT offers districts supplemental behavior analytic support whether it be full time, part time, long term or short term perhaps to cover a maternity leave. The responsibilities and benefits of a BCBA can include but aren’t restricted to: oversight of all ABA programs, assigned cases and behavior support plans, ensuring children have lessons and programs that tie to their IEP, training of teachers and paraprofessionals, training on data collection and ensuring data is analyzed, and gathering of materials for lesson implementation.
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): An FBA is conducted by a BCBA and identifies the function of, or reason for, maladaptive behaviors. FBA results lead to the development of methods to reduce inappropriate behavior while increasing appropriate, functionally equivalent, replacement behaviors.
Behavior Support Plan (BSP): A BSP will be developed by a behavior analyst based on the results of the FBA. Interventions recommended in a BSP are unique to each individual student.
Supplemental In-Home Services: TUT will provide direct 1:1 therapy in the home that is supplemental to the ABA therapy a child is receiving in school. Often, a specific behavior will be targeted for reduction.
Parent Training: TUT’s behavior analysts provide training on implementing recommended strategies to caregivers. This training occurs primarily in the home or other natural environments and focuses on assisting caregivers with implementing interventions.
ABA Staffing Services
TUT provides districts with temporary short and long term ABA staffing solutions. Positions include:
- BCBA
- ABA Therapist
- Trained Behavior Technicians and RBTs
- Behaviorist
- ABA Teacher
- Parent Trainer
Consulting Services
ABA Program Development: TUT works with your educators to design an efficient learning environment. This includes ABA training for all appropriate educators; maximizing the productivity from the tools available for data collection and analysis (i.e. Rethink Tools); needs assessment of the students in the program; help develop lesson plans and programs; and behavior support plans if necessary. When the project is complete, we leave a working model. This can be done room to room.
ABA Program Consulting: TUT helps districts build their own ABA program or provide evaluation and advice for improvement of an existing program (including your ESY program) so that it is aligned with the State of NJ APQI standards.
Individual Program Assessment and Evaluation: TUT’s behavior analyst will assess a child’s skills and barriers to learning. Based on the results, our BCBA will evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s program to meet the needs of the child. Evaluation includes interviews with caregivers and educators, as well as observation. The BCBA will present their findings and recommendations in a final report.
Professional Development
In-Service Workshops: At TUT, we can tailor a program specific to your district’s needs but we also have a library of In-Service Trainings that is updated on a regular basis. Check out samples of our In-Service Trainings here.
eLearning: Includes a comprehensive ABA training syllabus, video vignettes, and CE.
RBT/Trained Behavior Technician Online Training: This course provides training on research-based teaching strategies. Advanced Training also meets the 40-hour requirement for the RBT/Trained Behavior Technician credential.
Functional Behavior Training (FBT): FBT is a systematic process that teaches individuals appropriate ways to replace inappropriate behavior. FBT is typically conducted following an FBA and may be part of a child’s BSP.
