The Uncommon Thread (TUT) invites you to join us for an open house at our new autism therapy center located at 331 Elm Street in Stirling, New Jersey. Aside from refreshments and an abundance of fun activities for children, this will be an educational experience to see first-hand how a successful ABA center and preparatory program class is designed and operates. We’ll provide this education during 15-minute tours running throughout the day. Childcare will be provided during the tours if needed. At our Open House you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Learn the benefits of a center-based program for children between the ages of 1-5 years old
- See and understand how an ABA preparatory program room is set up and designed
- A preschool-like setting that will provide intensive, program-structured ABA
- Discover how social skills are built into almost every aspect of our daily activities
- Peer socialization in forms of music, art, day trips, daily circle time activities, and encouraged interaction and playtime
- Learn how we incorporate OT, PT and Speech into our programming
- See how our center-based program offers solid preparation for preschool and/or kindergarten
- Have lots of family fun! Face painting, bouncy house, games, cotton candy & more!
The opening of this center will allow TUT to serve more families in New Jersey. This could not come sooner considering the increase in the prevalence of autism in NJ. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the national rate of children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder is 1 in 59 children. This statistic is based on their evaluation of health and educational records of 8-year-old children in 2014 in 11 states, including New Jersey. New Jersey has the highest rate of autism in the nation: 1 in 34 children, or 3% of 8-year-old children. New Jersey’s prevalence continues to exceed and outpace other states. Minnesota is the next highest at 1 in 42.
